Usman Umar Dagona is a member of the Molecular and International Chemistry Organization and a respected fellow of the African Scientists Forum. He is a passionate Nigerian scientist, researcher, innovator, and science ambassador, born on December 2, 1998, in Gashua, Yobe State, Nigeria. He began his academic journey by obtaining a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Chemistry Education from Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua. He later earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) Degree in Chemistry from Federal University Gashua. In 2020, he received the prestigious Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship Award, becoming the first student sponsored by PTDF to study at Federal University Gashua. Alongside his academic development, he began his professional career as an Assistant Education Officer with the Yobe State Teaching Service Board (TSB). He subsequently served as a Research Officer at the Inara Foundation in Yobe State and later rose to the position of General Manager of the foundation in the state. During the 2019/2020 academic session, he emerged as the Overall Winner of the National Chemistry Competition in Nigeria, organized by the International Chemistry Competition (IChC), an achievement that distinguished him among the country's most promising young chemists. His innovative spirit gained international recognition when his project, Mini Spying Wireless Car, was ranked among the Top Ten Most Popular Entries in the 2021 Create the Future Design Contest, one of the world's most prestigious engineering and innovation competitions. The competition attracted entries from engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and students from more than 55 countries, while the contest itself has received over 15,000 innovative design ideas from participants in more than 100 countries worldwide since its inception. This achievement placed Usman among a select group of globally recognized innovators and showcased his ability to develop practical technological solutions with international relevance. Usman has conducted notable research on the Application of Copper Nanoparticles in Modern Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, which contributed significantly to his recognition as a Young African Scientist by the African Scientists Forum in 2023. He has also carried out important studies on the detection of heavy metals and physicochemical parameters in water and food samples collected from Bade and Gashua areas. In addition, he contributed to community-based research on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Causes (CKDu) in Gashua, demonstrating his commitment to addressing pressing environmental and public health challenges within his community. Since 2023, he has been honored as a Young African Scientist by the African Scientists Forum. More recently, following his outstanding performance, contributions to chemistry education, and ambassadorial appointment by the International Chemistry Competition (IChC), Usman Umar Dagona was recognized among the Top Five International Chemistry Ambassadors in the World, a distinction that reflects his growing influence in chemistry outreach, science communication, scientific diplomacy, and global scientific engagement.
